The Northwest Ohio Cultural Heritage Group will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with a number of events and activities at locations listed throughout the 2026-27 edition of this Passport.  Although Ohio was not among the original colonies that gained independence from Great Britain in 1776, it had been a part of what became known as the Northwest Territory as established in 1787 by the Continental Congress.  Ohio had been home for hundreds of years to Native American groups, such as the Shawnee, Delaware, Wyandot, and Ottawa.  Ohio statehood came on March 1, 1803, and was a pathway to the new country’s westward expansion.  The museums, libraries, archives, and historical societies that comprise the Northwest Ohio Cultural Heritage Group have preserved and continue to promote the history of this region.  We invite you to learn more about the region and America.  Additional America-250 information can be found on the following websites:
