The Middle Bass Club House Guest Register book contains the signatures of future President Taft and his son, Master Charles P. Taft. The family stayed in a cottage on Grape Avenue that exists today and is owned by the FitzGerald family. William Howard Taft became the 27th President of the United States on March 4, 1909. One of the photos in this series indicates that Mr. Taft was campaigning while at the Middle Bass Club. Other photos show Taft in the company of his wife, Helen, strolling down Lake Avenue, and his children. Source: Cumberworth, Fine & Taliak Personal Collections
